Like I said in the other thread 8X AGP uses 0.8v signaling and 4X AGP uses 1.5v. While the 0.7v difference may not seem like a lot it actually is quite a bit. 8X cards may work in 4X slots but if not initially damaged from the overvoltage they would prob degrade much faster than would be normal.

- The 2x 4x 8x are the relative speeds of the accelerated graphics port. The normal PCI slots operate at 33MHz. An AGP slot operates at 66MHz, 2x AGP at 133MHz (effective speed), 4x AGP at 266MHz (effective speed) and 8x at 533MHz (effective speed). Your G4 450 AGP Graphics has a 2x AGP slot.
- Will an 8x AGP video card work in a 4x AGP slot I just upgraded the video card in another computer with a new 8x 256 MB, the one I took out is an ATI Radeon 9800 pro 8x, Can I put this into my Dell Dimension 8100 that currently has a 64MB 4x i it right now.
- AGP 4x has a maximum transfer rate of 1066Mb/s whereas AGP 8x has 2133 MB/s. There were also AGP 1x and AGP 2x interfaces but they were very slow and not used that frequently. AGP slot is smaller in size than the PCI and other graphics card interfaces.

Agp 4x Graphics Card
I just bought a new video card for a computer in out bar, and I didn't notice that the computer's AGP slot is 4x max. (It is in a tight area, so it is one of those compact compaq desktops)
The card is an 8x AGP card and the slot is apparently 4x max. Is there a way to get this card to work in this computer? A 4x AGP low-profile video card with dual monitor output is hard to find at all, let alone something with decent RAM.
I don't remember the model of the computer off hand...I'll reply with that later. Video card is a geforce 4 128 MB DDR low-profile 8x AGP, dell part number F1811.
Thanks,
Mike
